JJ Frowde established the pharmacy / optican at Windsor Road 1884. The business was handed down to his nephew Bert Hemensley and then to Bert's son John who had gained his pharmacy qualification in 1947. John continued to run the business and gradually retired and handed to day to day running of the business to his son Ian, including all the recipes for traditional remedies from Mr Frowde's original formulae.

Ian graduated from Manchester University in 1994 with a 2:1 honours degree and returned to the Island in 1997 to manage the family business after working in Manchester Royal Infirmary. He currently looks after a number of hypertensive and asthmatic patients and runs minor ailments and sports injury clinics.
